Summary

The Catcher and the Rye is a story about a teenager named Holden who is going through the struggles of becoming an adult. At first, he talks about his life at Pencey Prep. It is a school he just flunked out of. This explains a lot about his character because this is not the only school he failed out of. So he is headed home back to New York three days early. While in New York, Holden runs into old friends and meets new people. He spends a lot of his time thinking about his past ideas and situations. He tells his sister that he is planning to leave home for good and she begs to go with him. He decides to take her to the zoo and lets her ride the carousel Holden almost cries seeing his sister so happy. Shortly after the story ends with the Holden saying "It's funny. Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody" (J.D. Salinger). To me, this helps show that he actually regrets his past actions.

An Outstanding Book
.
There are many reasons why The Catcher in The Rye is an outstanding book. This is a novel that I would highly recommend to anybody who is willing to read it. The way J.D. Salinger wrote it is fantastic. Salinger used fantastic dialog that teenagers from the time would actually use. The book is full of slang and other witty remarks that make the book very readable. The plot is not lacking anything, the beginning, the middle, and the end are all very interesting.
